Grid Mutation Collection
The GRID MUTATION collection is born from the alteration of the orthogonal network through parametric functions to become ornament. The sameness and recurrent structure of the grid is transformed by mapping onto free form surfaces. To become material, the virtual network receives thickness, but it also passes through the parametric gradual mutation. Although it retains the apparent order of the regular structure, the subtle effect of the transformations declares the transition to ornamentation. Through this process filigree objects with a geometric pattern altered by gradient metamorphosis are obtained.
The GRID MUTATION collection explores the jewellery adornment quality and tests the connection between parametric design and the potential of digital fabrication methods. The pieces in this collection combines features of traditional filigree jewellery with computationally altered geometrical order. This produces fine web structures generated by parametric variation of rigid grid structures and made by 3D printing in resin and casted in silver or gold.
